*This session has been coordinated by the NL Housing and Homelessness Network, and will be delivered by Paula Delahunty, Addictions Coordinator, Eastern Urban NL Health services*
This presentation is designed for front-line community workers and will introduce the concepts of Motivational Interviewing through a trauma informed lens (MI).
The session will explore MI as a conversational style of interviewing used in counselling that addresses the ambivalence that individuals experience when faced with the need to change.
MI is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communications which pays particular attention to the language of change, designed to strengthen personal motivation for a commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.” (Miller & Rollnick, 2013).
