NL Housing & Homelessness Network Response to 2022 Federal & Provincial Budgets

John’s, NL, April 8, 2022 – NL Housing & Homelessness Network (NLHHN) pleased with 2022 Federal & Provincial Budgets but believe there is more work to be done.

We are pleased to see that the Federal Budget is committing $10B towards affordable housing projects in our country, as well as moving towards socialized dental care with the goal of full implementation by 2025.

Provincially, we are pleased to see that there have been no increases in fees or taxes. $10 a day daycare is a welcomed addition; allowing more families to have both parents/caregivers working and earning more household income.

“Ultimately, both budgets are steps in the right direction, but there is more that needs to be done. With the dramatic increase in cost of living we’ve seen these last two years on an already strained social services system, we fear that families and individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless are being forgotten.”, says Cyril Tobin, Executive Director of NLHHN.
